Jesus Loves Even Me a Harpsichord Hymn

The text and music of this hymn was written by Philip P. Bliss (1838 1876) and published in 1871. Bliss composed several wellknown hymns and published a number of Gospel song books during his short life. In 1874 Dwight L. Moody asked him to join him in fulltime evangelistic work. From then until his death two years later, Bliss served with Moody as a special singer and song leader. During the many evangelistic crusades, he noticed that the hymn Oh, How I Love Jesus was sung quite often. He began considering why so much emphasis was put on his poor love for Jesus instead of Jesuss great love for him. As a result, he wrote the hymn Jesus Loves Even Me. Philip Bliss and his wife were tragically killed while traveling by train from Pennsylvania to Chicago on December 29, 1876.
