Excerpt At the turn of the century the Bath family had a Â3, 000, 000 fortune and owned about 30, 000 acres. Death duties and rising costs have whittled that down to 9, 000 acres and a capital so small that Lord Bath is not able to live in the house which needs forty servants. Lord Bath comments What I m trying to do is hang on to the house and estate for my splendour will be recaptured for a while this year when Lord Bath puts on court dress and ermine collared robes to ride in his own carriage to the Coronation.
