My grandad thinks my family comes from Ireland, but he also thinks we re from Scotland. I asked him how far he could trace back our family tree and he said the 1830s I asked. 1930s he confirmed. (Dude was born in 1931). Safe to say, this conversation left both of us none the wiser. Nonetheless, I ve had a soft spot for this Irish folk song ever since I was a child. Perhaps my favourite of all time. It s more commonly heard in 4, 4 but I found 6, 8 helped it flow better on the piano.
