Finally, China has launched its latest 3rd aircraft carrier Type 003 in Shanghai

China has launched the world s largest and most imposing aircraft carrier. The Type003 carrier is the first nonAmerican carrier to match the size of US Navy carriers. The Type003 Fujian will expand and mature the Chinese Navy s capabilities ten years after it commissioned its first aircraft carrier. It s part of a transition to a real bluewater navy that will operate in the Pacific and, if necessary, internationally. The Type003 is comparable in size to the Nimitz and Ford classes of the US Navy. In many aspects, its design is comparable to that of the original. It is also a development of the first two Chinese Navy (PLAN) carriers. These were constructed using Sovietera technology. The Type003 carrier will be China s newest and most advanced carrier.
