Retiring to a small village in Ireland, IrishAmerican writer James Ronald Mulcahy is at odds with the religious villagers. When Mulcahy calls for God to strike him dead, a man with amnesia later coined Johnny Nobody shoots him down. The village priest, Father Carey, investigates, probing into matters of faith and into Johnny s past, which leads him to believe Johnny s lover, Miss Floyd (Yvonne Mitchell), was behind the shooting, not God.
