Many years later, the two friends meet again in Vienna. Guido (Marian) has become a famous, but cold and cynical concert pianist, whereas Gottfried (Hörbiger), a wealthy landowner, is about to marry a beautiful woman named Alix (Hanna Witt). But Gottfried doesn t know that Alix once had a tempestuous affair with Guido in South America, and Guido is hurt and jealous about Alix involvement with Gottfried. Tensions rise and get out of hand when Gottfried invites Guido to visit him and his fiancée at his country
