3 days out winter camping on my bushcraft base camp, enjoying the comforts of a canvas wall tent and a wood stove in the winter holiday season. Heavy gear that needed to be hauled in, on 4 carrying trips from my truck left parked on the logging dirt road. It s worth it for a semi permanent base camp. For me nothing beats the warmth and comfort of canvas and wood. The cool thing with old school gear is that if well taken care of, will over last us. Can t say that about most of the plastic gear I tried before that is sitting in some trash dump somewhere. On the first evening I spit roast a chicken. I ve heard before in the comments from a few well intended folks and also a handful of self proclaimed experts, that you have to cook on coals or you will burn your food. Thats not entirely true. Sometimes when you are real hungry and can t wait for wood to burn into coals, you can use radiant heat from the fire to cook your meat. After cooking plenty of meals on open fire, I can tell
