Looking for the Date of Revelation Mar. 31, 2018 Trent Wilde
We discuss some possible factors in determining a date for The Revelation. These include the 7 kings mentioned in Revelation 17:911 (the sixth of which was evidently ruling at the time of its composition), the number 666 (or 616 as stated in at least two variant manuscripts of Revelation) potentially referring to the name of Nero, persecutions of the early followers of Jesus (referred to by the Romans as Christians) under Nero, and Polycarp s relation to John. We discuss the fact that we do not actually know which John this is that Polycarp knew. We also briefly remark on the question of whether the Nicolaitanes that are mentioned in chapters 2 and 3 were gnostics and whether that can tell us anything about the date that Revelation was written.
