India and Russia concluded a 5, 100crore deal for joint production of AK203 assault rifles. Officials said more than 5 lakh AK203 rifles will be produced at a facility in UP s Amethi. The deal was finalised at a bilateral meet between defence ministers Rajnath Singh, Sergey Shoigu. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the project last week. Govt has said rifles will enhance operational effectiveness of Indian Army in antiterror operations. The Centre approved a plan to produce these rifles at Korwa the production is expected to start soon. AK203 rifles will be manufactured under a joint venture called IndoRussian Rifles Private Limited. The project is a joint venture with the Russian government under the Make in India initiative of the Modi government. Watch the full video for more.
