RUSSIA: CHECHNYA: 4 TH ANNIVERSARY OF SELF PROCLAIMED INDEPENDENCE
(6 Sep 1995) Russian, Nat Rebel Chechen leader Dzhokhar Dudayev has threatened to bring his battle to Russia if the Russians don t give up their battle for the breakaway republic. The statement coincided with the fourth anniversary of selfproclaimed independence in Chechnya and thousands took to the streets of the capital to mark the event. Emotions ran high in Grozny as Chechens marked their fourth anniversary of nominal freedom from Russia. With the ruins of the presidential palace as a backdrop providing a stark reminder of the war against Moscow, around 4thousand people gathered in a fierce show of pride and patriotism. Angry marches were interspersed with the Zikr, a Chechen war dance. The leader of the breakaway republic Dzhokhar Dudayev appeared on local television to mark the event.
