S 300 S 400 Air Defence
Song: In Extremo Liam The Russian S300 and S400 are long range antiair systems designed to engage targets such as cruise missiles, aircraft, and ballistic missiles. S400: The development of the S400 system began in the late 1990s. The system was formally announced by the Russian Air Force in January 1999. On 12 February 1999, the first tests were performed at Kapustin Yar in Astrakhan which were reported successful. As a result of this, the S400 entered service with the Russian Army in 2007. S400 is capable of tracking over 100 targets and engaging 6 simultaneously at ranges upto 400km (250mi). The S400 s capabilities over shadow the American MIM104 PAC3 Patriot system, and even top the S300. Russia currently operates 3 battalions, and will arm 4 others by years end.
