Clunkers for Cash 22 Ebay Stirling engine
This is a Stirling Engine that I bought on Ebay for only 22 and restored it. It was in such a bad condition that I regretted the buy after I have received it. While it heats up I show you some pictures of how it looked before the restauration. Everything was crooked, leaky, dirty and covered with epoxy. I took it apart by heating the metal parts carefully with a propane torch so that the epoxy became soft. Then I cleaned everything with acetone. The surface of all the flat parts were machined with a fly cutter and then polished. The displacer piston and the base plate were made from scratch. To connect aluminium and glass in the hot parts of the engine I used waterglass (aka liquid glass) as a glue. This is a aqueous solution of Sodium silicate. It needs carbon dioxide to cure and gives a glue that is extremly heat resistant. In the cash for clunkers program a sodium silicate solution was used to destroy engines. Here i used it to repair an engine.
