Misha, a soldier hospitalized with an arm injury in 1941, escapes to spend a day with his love interest, Lida, a nurse from the hospital living nearby. However, Lida s mother, trying to protect her only child from sorrow of separation as the war continues, persuades Misha to rethink his attitude towards the development of his relationship with Lida as well as the opportunities he would be able to offer to her daughter if he survives the War. Misha is faced with a decision to make for both of them.
