On February 13, 2010, Operation Moshtarak began as a massive operation to expel the Taliban from the insurgent stronghold of Marjah, it was the largest ISAF operation in the Afghan War until that point. It consisted of a 15, 000 strong joint task force comprised of 60 ANA and 40 ISAF who encircled the area and began clearing operations that turned wholly kinetic.
