Giant Hooded Nudibranchs Melibe leonina British Columbia, Canada
These hooded nudibranchs (Melibe leonina) are one of the largest species in the genus. Hooded nudibranchs feed by catching tiny crustaceans in the huge oral hood, which then contracts, trapping their prey and forcing it into their mouth. Here, hundreds of hooded nudibranchs perch on kelp with their oral hoods held into the current, catching passing prey. Filmed off Port Hardy, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Filmed by Michael Baron. All footage and images in this video are Michael Baron, Eagle
