Village Blacksmith (1947)
British Instructional Films Ltd presents a Classroom Film. Pathe Production. Man walks down a village lane leading a large horse. He takes the horse to the Blacksmith s. Blacksmith lifts horse s leg to look at its hoof. Horse is led into Blacksmith s shed. A piece of metal is heated in the fire. C, U of bellows being pumped. Iron is taken from the fire and beaten on an anvil into a horseshoe shape. Dents are beaten into the horseshoe with a special tool. A nail is then beaten into dents to make then into holes. Blacksmith takes horse s foot between his knees and prises off the old shoe. C, U of horse. He then puts new shoe onto sole of foot. Lots of steam comes off. It seems as if the hoof is being melted so that the shoe fits. The hoof is filed slightly. The new shoe is held against the foot and nails are banged in.
