Part of ANTIPODES CALLING issue. Missionaries at Bathurst Island, Australia. Various shots of palm trees and beach of tropical island. We see young boys in loin cloths climbing up trees. Narrator says of island: it is inhabited by a people whose instincts are not far removed from lower animals. Panning shot of group of black children, probably from indigenous tribes. Their stomachs are enlarged due to malnutrition. A Roman catholic nun in a white habit walks amongst the crowd of kids, she appears to be giving out objects. Various shots of children walking in a crocodile through palm tree grove, accompanied by nuns. Narrator says: white missionaries have come amongst the aboriginals to save the blacks from themselves. Various shots of barechested young women playing basket ball, nuns umpire. Various shots of children running down beach and into the sea. M, S of priest ringing bell.
