The Tales of Hoffmann (original title: Les Contes d Hoffmann) is an opéra fantastique in five acts by Jacques Offenbach. The French libretto was written by Jules Barbier, based on a play written in 1851 with Michel Carré. It is the second opera composed by Offenbach, a composer dedicated to the operetta genre, who died before completing the instrumentation, later completed by Ernest Guiraud. The first performance took place at the OpéraComique in Paris on February 10, 1881.
