GUM Department store, Moscow, GUM
One of the attractions by the Red Square is the 242m long building in NeoRussian architectonic style, constructed at the end of the 19th century as a department store, which by then had become the fashion in many countries. GUM stands for Glavny Universalny Magazin (Main Department Store). It functioned as a consumer s temple also in Soviet times, except for the years of Stalin s rule, when it was used as space for offices. Today, privately owner, it should be called a Shopping Mall, selling mostly luxury brands. Experience Russia with ETours Russia, Professional DMC Tour Operator.
