It is the second Gundam work that Sunrise has produced as a standalone theatrical work. The F in the title is an acronym for Formula, and since this word includes the meaning of standard in addition to formula, it was decided to name the title and the Gundam Gundam F91, meaning setting a new standard for Gundam.
