Monterosso al mare Vernazza
Hike from Monterosso to Vernazza (La Spezia, Liguria) Monterosso al Mare is located at the center of a small natural gulf. It is the westernmost village of the Cinque Terre. Its sand beaches are relatively larger compared to the other four villages of Cinque Terre. In the early spring, you can see workers cleaning the beaches and pouring bags of new sand on them. Monterosso or Monte Rosso means Red Mountain in Italian and al mare means that the village is located by the sea. From the beach, you will see the impressive 14metre statue of the giant Neptune created by the Italian sculptor Arrigo Minerbi in 1910. The best way to go to Monterosso is by a local train from La Spezia or Genoa. It is interesting to note that the tickets to and from villages of Cinque Terre are quite expensive (10 euros for a threeminute journey) compared to tickets to other stations with a similar distance. The path to Vernazza follows the ancient mule path. The distance to Vernazza is about 2. 5 miles with the highes
