Commentator explains that the former home of the Duke of Sutherland is now run by the Central Council of Physical Recreation as a training school for athletes of promise. We see the students in a classroom, being instructed by J W LloydAlford on the theory of longjumping with the aid of stick men drawn on a blackboard. On the field, Chief National Coach Geoff Dyson instructs the students, as Empire Games semifinalist Robbie Brightwell demonstrates the sprint start. Geoff hands the Dynamometer to John Cresswell and the young man strains in agony while trying to pull the metal apart this builds up essential strength.
