During the Indonesian War of Independence (1945 1949), Politionele Acties the Dutch did commit war crimes against the Indonesians where the tried to keep Indonesia as a colony of the Netherlands: the Dutch East Indies (NederlandsIndië), sometimes known as De oost (The East). The most infamous was the South Celebes Affair (ZuidCelebesAffaire) where Dutch commandos led by captain Raymond Westerling shot and killed many people of the region.
