Olympic Boxing Controversy: Sex Testing Protects Women Getting Seven Bells Knocked Out Of Them
An Algerian teammate of Imane Khelif gatecrashed a chaotic International Boxing Association press conference, labelling the treatment of the boxer at the centre of a gender row disgusting. Welterweight Khelif and Chinese Taipei featherweight Lin Yuting were disqualified by the IBA during last years World Championships for failing to meet gender eligibility criteria. However, financial and corruption concerns led to the IBA being expelled last year by the International Olympic Committee, which is instead administering the boxing programme and has allowed Khelif and Lin to compete at Paris 2024 as it has different gender eligibility criteria. The pair are both guaranteed medals but the IBA held a media opportunity to explain its exclusion just 24 hours before Khelifs semifinal against Thailands Janjaem Suwannapheng.
