Bach WTC II Prelude and fugue no. 11 in F major BWV 880 Schornsheim, Netherlands Bach Society
This eleventh majestic prelude from the Wohltemperirte Clavier II has the allure of a chorale, but with uncommon flair. Written in the style of the prelude non mesuré a seventeenthcentury French phenomenon where the performer was given a lot of freedom in interpreting the music. Followed by a playful fugue that abruptly ends the hymnic calm of the prelude. We recorded Bachs first book of the Wohltemperirte Clavier at the homes of 24 different musicians. For the second book, performed in its entirety by Christine Schornsheim, we chose 12 very different locations in Utrecht, to celebrate the 900th anniversary of our home city. Recorded for the project All of Bach on 13 February 2022 at Stadion Galgenwaard, Utrecht, the Netherlands.
