Police Need To Regain Public Trust , Officer Cleared Of Killing Chris Kaba
The police officer who shot and killed Chris Kaba has been cleared of murder. Martyn Blake, 40, fired a single shot through the windscreen of the car Kaba was driving as armed officers surrounded him in Streatham, south London. The jury deliberated for three hours before delivering the verdict, which left Blake visibly emotional. Kaba s family remained silent in court after the decision. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley defended Blake, stating that he made a splitsecond decision to protect his colleagues and the public. Rowley also expressed concern about the lack of support for officers in such situations, warning it could make London less safe. Conservative leadership contender Robert Jenrick called Blake a hero who feared for his and his colleagues lives, criticising the prosecution as wrong and urging more support for police officers.
