It s pretty much the reason behind why a lot of the biggest blockbuster releases of the last decade or two have been connected to some previously existing franchise. Of course there is stuff like the MCU, which while initially building upon lesser known heroes, has definitely been leaning into properties such as SpiderMan a lot heavier as of late. Or look at the WreckIt Ralph films, which may not in of itself be a nostalgic IP, but used the imagery of video game characters that we all know and love in its marketing. Or what about the hundreds of films that have been remade or rebooted, that didnt really need to be. Or of course, the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. That things whole existence is due to nostalgia. This begs the question, is nostalgia good for the film industry Is putting remakes or reboots above original ideas sucking some of the life out of cinema
