Thank you for watching If you enjoyed the video, Subscribe for more here Formed in 1980, Ireland s Army Ranger Wing has been conducting highly dangerous and complex operations ever since. They were originally formed for CounterTerrorism but as the unit evolved they adapted to more of a Special Operations role. The Army Ranger Wing is believed to have around 100150 active personnel within their ranks. All highly trained and skilled in a variety of roles. Recently the Army Ranger Wing have deployed to Mali in response to an upsurge in violence in northeastern Mali, led by militants affiliated with alQaeda. The Irish contingent are due to be primarily tasked with conducting longrange reconnaissance patrols (LRRP) and deployed as part of a Germanled ISTAR Task Force, benefiting from the protections and medical support in place for the larger force. 14 ARW operators are reported to be involved per rotation.
