Pentecost Pantheon: Rose petal shower
The Pantheon, 2C AD Hadrianic era temple, became a church under the emperor Phocas, through Pope Boniface IV on May 13, AD 609. The feast of the Pentecost in the Pantheon, of ancient tradition, though no one knows just how old of a tradition (possibly 7C ), is a spectacle. The Holy Spirit descends upon all at the end of the mass, in the form of rose petals, thrown down through the oculus by Rome s firemen. It is low technology but does not fail to delight all that love ancient spaces, ancient Rome, Roman history, and, of course, the Pantheon.
