Springfield 1816 flintlock musket POV firing
Original Springfield Model 1816 musket made at Springfield Armory in 1823 for the US Army. These muskets were. 69 caliber, or roughly 16 gauge. I was using buck ball cartridges made to original US Army spec, but loaded with less powder to be gentle on this 200 year old gun. . 69 caliber was standardized during and after the Revolutionary War due to the massive number of Charleville muskets bought and given to the US from France. The US Army s muskets would all be mostly based on the Charleville into the mid1800s, and many would be updated to caplock and used in the Civil War.
