Norbert Rodenkirchen improvises a stantipes based on the Trouvere chanson Quant li rosignol joli. According to Grocheos treatise De Musica from Paris in the late 13th ct. a stantipes was not a dance but a more contemplative piece of music in a complex form. It had to be ended with an ornamented melismatic pneuma in one of the eight modes.
