Funeral of Andrei Tarkovski 1987

The funeral service was celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky in Paris during which the cellist Mstislav Rostropovich played Bach s Sarabande. Tarkovsky was buried January 3, 1987 at the Russian Orthodox cemetery in SainteGenevièvedesBois alongside other Russian officials as Ivan Bunin. The marble tomb of the sculptor Ernst Neizvestny evokes Golgotha and has seven floors, symbolizing the seven films Tarkovsky.
